SAT basics

How Long Is the Digital SAT?

The digital SAT takes about 2 hours 14 minutes of testing time, plus a 10-minute break between sections. It is meaningfully shorter than the old paper test.

Section timing

• Reading & Writing: two modules, 32 minutes each, 27 questions each.
• Break: 10 minutes.
• Math: two modules, 35 minutes each, 22 questions each.

What the clocks mean for strategy

Reading & Writing gives you about 71 seconds per question; Math about 95 seconds. That is tighter than it feels — flag and move on rather than sinking four minutes into one question.

Adaptive modules

Module 2 matches your Module 1 performance: a harder second module can lead to a higher ceiling. Do not panic if Module 2 feels brutal — it often means Module 1 went well.
