SAT calculator guide

How to Use the Desmos Calculator on the Digital SAT

The digital SAT is taken in the Bluebook app, and every student gets the same built-in Desmos graphing calculator on both Math modules. Learning it well is one of the cheapest score improvements available — no content knowledge required, just familiarity.

When to graph, and when to just compute

Five shortcuts that save real time

1. Solve systems by intersection

Type the two equations, tap the intersection point, and the answer appears as an exact pair.

2. Find zeros and minimums

Graph a quadratic; the x-intercepts are the solutions and the vertex is the minimum or maximum.

3. Lists for averages and medians

mean([4, 8, 9, 11]) and median([3, 7, 2, 9, 5]) beat hand arithmetic, especially with five or more values.

4. Sliders for unknown constants

If a problem has an unknown constant, make it a slider and watch how the graph changes.

5. Degrees mode for trigonometry

Switch to degrees before using sine, cosine, or tangent on angle questions.

Practice with the real thing
